Clear answers to common queries regarding other-state vehicle re-registration tax.
A re-assigned vehicle is one that was originally registered in another Indian state and is subsequently transferred to Kerala, requiring a new Kerala registration mark (KL-XX) and motor vehicle tax assessment.
The tax is calculated based on the depreciated value of the vehicle. First, the full lifetime tax is determined using active Finance Act rates on the original invoice price. A depreciation scale (RMA_DEPRECIATION) then reduces the lifetime tax based on completed years since original registration.
To process re-assignment and tax assessment, you will require the original RC, NOC from the previous state, address proof in Kerala, and original purchase invoice to verify the vehicle's purchase price.
Yes. Once you pay the tax in Kerala and obtain the new registration mark, you can submit a refund claim to your previous state's RTO for the unexpired portion of the road tax paid there.
