Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to common queries regarding construction equipment taxation.
Tax is calculated on a weight-based slab structure. Rules are specified w.e.f 01/04/2018. For equipment up to 9,000 Kg, flat quarterly rates apply (ranging from ₹35 to ₹165). For equipment exceeding 9,000 Kg, tax is calculated using a base rate of ₹165 plus ₹25 for every additional 1,000 Kg (or part thereof) in excess of 9,000 Kg.
Under the Kerala Motor Vehicle rules, earthmovers, excavators, dumpers, road rollers, and heavy machinery used specifically for construction works fall under this class. Agricultural tractors have a separate concession scheme.
